The fisherman gives
the fish to Shancai who takes it to Guanyin. It returns to the sea where it immediately transforms back into a
dragon. The Dragon King rewards Guanyin by sending his granddaughter, Longnü, to present her with the Pearl of
Light, a precious jewel that shines with a constant light. Longnü asks to be a
disciple and Guanyin accepts her giving her back the pearl of light. The pearl in the hand of Guanyin may remind Christians of the "pearl of great price" mentioned in one of the parables of Jesus. Longnü and Shancai are the two children standing alongside Guanyin
in some depictions. Guanyin is depicted here standing on the dragon's son she has saved.
