Carmelite Virgin of Mercy

Carmelite Virgin of Mercy

This image of the Virgin of Mercy was painted with tempera on an oak panel c. 1480 for a Carmelite monastery.  It now hangs in the Szépművészeti Múzeum in Budapest, Hungary. The six Carmelites sheltered under her cloak are most likely portraits of the monks who lived in the monastery.
