Sendai Daikannon

Dai Kannon in Sendai, Japan
The Sendai Daikannon is the second tallest statue of Kannon (Guanyin) in the world.  It is located in Sendai, Japan and stands 328 feet tall. At the time of its completion in 1991 it was the tallest statue in the world, but it has since been surpassed by several immense statues of Buddha and Guan Yin of the South Sea of Sanya.  In this image the goddess bears the pearl of light in her hand.  Far from associating the priceless pearl with the gift of faith, Buddhists look to the pearl and the “Wish-fulfilling” form of Kannon to grant their petitions for mercy.
